A Pistachio Processing System can support each required stage of the process. Pistachio processing stages may include unloading, precleaning, transferring, shelling, separation, sizing and grading, sorting and detection, conveying, weighing, bulk filling, and packing.

Published system throughputs range from 5,000 to 60,000 lbs. per hour depending on the equipment and system configuration used for the application.

Your project may require a complete Pistachio Processing System, individual pistachio processing equipment, or selected components for an existing line. Equipment can be configured around an existing facility footprint or planned for a new facility application.

Not every pistachio operation requires every processing stage.

Individual pistachio processing equipment can be added when your operation needs one machine, an equipment group, or another processing stage. Selection depends on the process, existing machinery, available space, product flow, and required integrations.

Pistachio Shelling, Sorting and Detection

Shelling, sorting, and detection are distinct requirements within a pistachio processing line. Your system may require shelling equipment, sorting and detection integration, or a combination of these stages depending on the product and processing requirements.

Pistachio Shelling

If shelling is part of your processing requirement, the system can use Impact Shelling or Tough Shelling equipment. The appropriate Pistachio shelling configuration depends on your product and processing requirements. Pistachio Sorting and Detection

If your operation requires sorting or detection, optical sorting, metal detection, and X-ray systems can be integrated with the surrounding pistachio processing equipment, product transfer, and system flow.

Target Throughput

Throughput affects the size and arrangement of equipment throughout the line. Published Pistachio Processing System capacities range from 5,000 to 60,000 lbs. per hour, with the actual capacity determined by the equipment and configuration used for your application.

Facility & Integration Constraints

An existing facility may limit where new equipment can be placed or how product moves between stages. Floor space, machinery already in service, and required integration points should be accounted for before the line layout is finalized.

System & Component Selection

Once the process and facility requirements are clear, individual components can be matched to the line. Downstream needs such as conveying, weighing, bulk bin filling, super sack filling, and bulk packing also influence which equipment is required.

How Pistachios Move Through the Processing Line

A pistachio processing line can combine several supported stages from receiving through shelling, separation, grading, sorting, transfer, weighing, and downstream filling or packing. Not every Pistachio-processing project requires every stage.

Receiving, Unloading & Precleaning

Pistachio product can enter the system through supported unloading equipment before moving into precleaning. Precleaning helps remove unwanted material before downstream processing begins.

Scalping, Fines Removal & Shelling

G-Flex equipment can support scalping and fines removal before shelling where required. Impact Shelling and Tough Shelling equipment can then be selected according to your product and processing requirements.

Density Separation & Size Grading

UVS systems separate product by density. G-Flex size grading systems then separate Pistachio product by the required size classifications. Density separation, size grading, or both stages can be included where the operation requires them.

Sorting & Detection Integration

Optical sorting, metal detection, and X-ray equipment can be integrated when required. Pistachio sorting equipment and a pistachio sorting machine can be connected to the surrounding processing system and product flow. Third-party sorting and detection equipment is integrated by GWI but is not represented as GWI-manufactured equipment.

Product Transfer, Conveying & Weighing

Product transfer elevators and conveyors can move Pistachios between required processing stages. Supported weighing equipment can also be incorporated where product measurement is needed before downstream handling.

Bulk Filling & Packing

At the downstream end of the line, product can move into bulk bins, super sacks, or bulk packing equipment. The bulk filling or packing method depends on the operation’s required output.

Pistachio Shelling Machines and Systems

Shelling is one stage within the larger Pistachio Processing System. Depending on the application, a pistachio shelling machine, pistachio sheller machine, or other supported pistachio sheller configuration may use Impact Shelling or Tough Shelling. The appropriate equipment depends on the product and required throughput.

A pistachio shelling line can place the shelling stage after upstream preparation and before separation, grading, sorting, conveying, weighing, and filling. Published shelling capacities apply only to the individual shelling equipment and not to the complete processing line.

Shelling System Equipment

Impact Shelling

Impact Shelling provides a supported shell-removal stage within the processing line. Impact Shelling can follow upstream preparation and operate before separation, grading, sorting, or product-transfer equipment.

GWI’s published capacity for Impact Shelling is up to 5,500 lbs. per hour. The 5,500 lbs. per hour capacity applies only to Impact Shelling equipment and does not represent the throughput of every Pistachio Processing System.

Tough Shelling

Tough Shelling is available when the product requires this shelling approach. Tough Shelling can operate before separation, grading, sorting, conveying, or other downstream handling stages.

GWI’s published capacity for Tough Shelling is up to 2,500 lbs. per hour. The 2,500 lbs. per hour capacity applies only to Tough Shelling equipment and remains separate from the overall Pistachio Processing System throughput range.
